Competitive Events

Competitive Events are a vital part of DECA and choosing the right event is important. For a complete list of events and detailed explanation of specific events, visit the official List on the DECA website by clicking the blue button below. There are e different types of events:

  • Written Events: Written events are generally business plans, that can range from about 10 to 30 pages depending on the event, which are presented to a judge. For a written event, the paper, the presentation, and visual aids all contribute to your overall score (some written events also include a multiple choice test that factor in) determining your success.

  • Role Plays: Role plays are where the competitor and the judge will "role play" a business scenario that depends on the certain event. Prior to the role play, a 100 question multiple choice test will be given which, along with the role play, contribute to your score.

  • Virtual Events: Virtual events compete online, for example the stock market game where a team of 1-3 competitors invests in the stock market with fake money to get the greatest return from the stock investment. These events are internet based but they still do attend competitions and offer a greater chance of advancing to ICDC. You are allowed to be in a Virtual Event and another event of your choosing.

  • Chapter Team Events: Chapter events are events led by 1-3 DECA Members, but all members help and support the project.  There are 6 different topics to choose from and from that, the entire chapter will work together and in the end, the 1-3 DECA members will present their project to a judge.
